Seth Corey, MD, MPH is Professor of Molecular Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and has been involved in and cares about medical education. He received his undergraduate degree with honors in biology and history of medicine from Yale University and his MD and MPH from Tulane School of Medicine and School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Following residency at St. Louis Children's Hospital at Washington University, he completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship studying cell signaling and metabolism at Tufts University. He began his independent lab and physician-scientist career as an Asstistant Professor in Pediatrics and Pharmacology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, then recruited to MD Anderson as Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Leukemia, serving as section head for pediatric leukemia and lymphoma. He was appointed as the first Sharon Murphy - Steven Rosen Research Professor of Pediatric Cancer at Northwestern University School of Medicine and Lurie Children’s Hospital. At Northwestern, he was one of the leaders in a new curriculum to mentor medical students in a four-year longitudinal research course that would culminate in a graduating thesis. In 2015, he was named the inaugural Children’s Hospital Foundation Endowed Chair in Pediatric Cancer Research, Division Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/Stem Cell Transplantation, and Cancer Genetics Program co-leader at the Massey Cancer Center and Children’s Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University. His current appointment is at the Cleveland Clinic where he is the pediatric clinical director of the Cleveland Clinic bone marrow failure center and principal investigator for the Center of Excellence in Ewing Sarcoma. He is a member0f Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr Corey has co-authored more than 150 original articles, commentaries, and book chapters. He has been continuously funded by NIH and other extramural awards since 1987. He has served on MD/PhD admissions committee, taught at multiple medical schools, and mentored over 40 individuals who now hold academic appointments at some of the best US medical schools. Dr. Corey was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Ohio Congressional District 11, finishing 6 of 11, in 2021. In addition, he has started a Pittsburgh film festival now in its 33rd year and is a not-ready-for prime time cellist. Best of all he is the father of two adults and grandfather to four fun grandchildren.
