Report finds most MD programs still maintain DEI initiatives

A majority of MD-granting medical schools maintain diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) offices, a new report has found.

The report, which was published on Aug. 31 by Do No Harm, is tied to the conservative watchdog’s Medical School Excellence Index, which was launched in September 2025.

The index measures medical schools’ “institutional commitment to DEI ideology” as well as admissions quality and student performance transparency. Schools received lower grades for maintaining DEI offices and for including DEI language in their mission statements.

This year’s findings reveal that 62% of American allopathic medical schools continue to have DEI offices. The organization’s report summarizing its findings criticizes schools with DEI commitments for elevating ideology over merit and excellence.
