Following a federal investigation announcement, an elite medical school is quietly altering its online materials.
Most Americans don’t realize this, but their health has been at risk for years. Divisive and discriminatory ideology has crept into health education, under the guise of so-called “diversity, equity, and inclusion.” This politicized worldview has become foundational not only at medical schools, but also at the nursing schools that train my profession. The sudden turn toward indoctrination means that future nurses are spending less time actually studying the essentials of nursing and patient care.
Dr. Azadeh Khatibi and the medical watchdog organization Do No Harm filed a petition on Tuesday asking the Supreme Court to take up a case challenging continuing medical education requirements that mandate instructors teach doctors about “implicit bias,” which is the claim that a person can unconsciously discriminate against another. Khatibi argues that the requirements, which were signed into law by California Gov. Gavin Newsom, force medical professionals to push politically charged ideas.
Today, Do No Harm and Dr. Azadeh Khatibi petitioned the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) to protect free speech in medical training by striking down California’s mandate that Continuing Medical Education (CME) courses contain implicit bias curriculum for physicians. The Pacific Legal Foundation represents both parties in this action.
The American Medical Association Foundation website no longer includes listings for race-based scholarships after a medical watchdog suggested the foundation should lose its tax-exempt status for racial discrimination.
In practice, of course, DEI often manifests as racially discriminatory hiring, admissions, and recruiting policies; it is definitionally anti-merit and degrades the quality of health services; it treats people as members of specific identity groups rather than as individuals and organizes clinical care accordingly; and it views healthcare institutions as vehicles for social and political change, usually at the expense of clinical excellence.
